Our interview with Senator Martinez

It was quite an honor to conduct the first interview with Senator Martinez after he announced that he would not seek re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2010. In the interview Senator Martinez offers insight into his decision not to run and who he thinks would be good candidates to replace him. Here is Justin Sayfie's interview with the Senator in its entirety.

The new political world order

From The Miami Herald's Naked Politics blog:
So which intrepid media outlet nailed the first interview with U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez after his announcement Tuesday that he will not run for re-election?

The Miami Herald? Nope. The New York Times? Nope. Politico? Wrong again.

The answer: Fort Lauderdale Republican lawyer/lobbyist/political media man Justin Sayfie, who just announced that he will have an "exclusive" interview with Martinez posted on his web site tomorrow at www.sayfiereview.com.

The World Was Watching

Last week, I told you about the Groundbreaking Election Day coverage we were planning for SayfieReview.com. Now that the dust has settled, I am happy to report that the coverage was an even greater success than we had originally anticipated. Our live Election Day video broadcasts from Florida precincts were viewed more than 43,500 times from viewers across the globe, surpassing any other Florida news organization.

Our live Election Day reports were featured on the BBC, Politico, Business Week, Wired Magazine, Tech President, the St. Petersburg Times, the Orlando Sentinel, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Lakeland Ledger and The Nieman Foundation at Harvard University.

As a publisher and editor, it was a fascinating experience to watch our coverage unfold. In the past, Election Day had always been a waiting game. Political operatives would sit around pacing the halls in their offices, checking the weather report every five minutes with no real information on what was going on at polling locations. With our reports, I believe we changed that, at least in Florida, forever. By carefully targeting precincts that represented specific voting demographics, we were able to report what voter turnout numbers were amongst samples of those critical voting blocks. For example, when our Correspondent reported from the campus of the University of Florida that voter turnout at 3:05 p.m. was already 75% we knew the race was over in Florida. Barack Obama had done the impossible - he had turned out young voters and we were the first in Florida to report it with hard numbers.

The response we received from our coverage was truly overwhelming. As with any bleeding-edge technology, there were certainly some kinks (Qik's servers shutting down completely mid-day due to server overload) but all in all, we believe the Sayfie Review readers benefited greatly and enjoyed our broadcast. We can't wait to tweak it and make it even better for next time.

If you weren't able to tune in, here are all of our Election Day reports for your viewing pleasure

In Groundbreaking News Coverage, Sayfie Review to Broadcast Live, Precinct-Based Reports on Election Day
Sayfie Review Correspondents will report on turnout in targeted precincts throughout Florida on November 4th

Continuing to break new ground in internet news coverage, SayfieReview.com will provide live news broadcasts on Election Day from targeted voter precincts throughout Florida.

“The eye of the political world will be on Florida on Election Day,” said Justin Sayfie, founder and publisher of SayfieReview.com. “SayfieReview.com will do something that has never been done before in Florida journalism. We will provide our influential audience with live video reports from Florida precincts via the internet. You’ve got to see it to believe it.”

On Election Day, seven SayfieReview.com correspondents will be broadcasting live reports via cell phone video cameras. These correspondents will be reporting voter turnout statistics from precincts representing critical voter demographic groups across Florida and will also provide historic context to these turnout statistics. Voter demographics that will be monitored include African-Americans (Tallahassee), Hispanics (Miami), students (Gainesville), seniors (Tampa), strong Bush 2004 precinct (Jacksonville), strong Kerry 2004/Jewish voters precinct (Broward), and independent voters (Orlando).

“By using cell phone cameras to broadcast live video reports directly to the SayfieReview.com homepage, we are going to change the way politicos receive their Election Day news forever,” Sayfie said. “Through the power of cutting-edge internet technology, we will be the first to deliver viewers worldwide important Election Day turnout information from Florida via live TV.”

Live coverage will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Election Day and can only be found at SayfieReview.com

Sayfie Review on Blackberry

This is pretty cool - today we announced the release of a free Sayfie Review Blackberry application. I am unaware of any other political news organization in Florida with an app like this, so needless to say we are pretty pumped. You can download the app yourself by clicking this link directly from your blackberry. Enjoy!

Not sure we're taking over the world...

...but this is still a very nice blog post by the St. Petersburg Times' Adam Smith about my new hire at Sayfie Media.
