Sharon Day Harnesses New Technology to Win RNC Post

This afternoon, Florida National Committeewoman Sharon Day was elected Secretary of the Republican National Committee. Day's victory stunned party insiders as her opponent had sat on the Committee for nearly a decade longer than Sharon. Day's victory was largely attributed to her commitment to new technology in her campaign, a distinguishing factor which garnered a lot of buzz at the 2009 RNC Winter meeting.

Over the past few months, I have been serving as the Online Campaign Director for Sharon Day's campaign for Secretary of the RNC in conjunction with Justin Sayfie who served as the Chief Consultant for the campaign. We are very proud of the success Sharon achieved using new technology in her campaign. Sharon's campaign performed better on the web than any other down-ballot RNC candidate and even some of the candidates for Chairman of the RNC. Here are some of the highlights of Sharon's online campaign:
  • More Twitter followers (+2,000) than 4 of the candidates for Chairman, including winner Michael Steele (@Steele4Chair)
  • More than 1,200 supporters on Facebook
  • The only candidate for any RNC post to utilize a mass text messaging campaign to lobby for votes
  • The only candidate to be endorsed by 3 of the c0-founding members of Rebuild the Party (Patrick Ruffini, Mindy Finn, and Justin Sayfie)
  • The only candidate endorsed by the Top Conservatives on Twitter
  • Creation and distribution of numerous online videos via iTunes, YouTube and Blip.TV
  • Only candidate for Secretary to participate in interviews on BlogTalkRadio
